Consider where you get your news. Change your habits. This is an exercise in consensus-breaking which must occur before a new consensus can be formed.
If you subscribe to mainstream, national magazines, then cancel those subscriptions. Subscribe to small, alternative news sources. Do not listen to television network news. Better still, do not watch television at all. Unplug the set. Disconnect your cable or satellite link. Like withdrawing from an addictive drug, you will, for a while, crave sitting in front of the set as your mind is sucked out of you into oblivion. Television began with vacuum tubes. Now with digital cable, 500 channels and high-definition, television still sucks like a vacuum. Learn to think of it that way and turn it off. Where possible, listen to alternative radio stations. Do not just listen to the corporatized opinion-setting networks, including National "PR" Radio. Seek out smaller stations with different perspectives. Listen to no radio station that advertises, even those that broadcast lengthy non-advertising advertisements for those who ‘underwrite’ ‘non-commercial’ broadcasts. Surf the web for news. If you read a foreign language, look for foreign media news. Avoid all of the major internet portal news sites. Avoid any web sites that have flashing or pop-up or banner ads. Do not distribute silly or off-color or insensitive jokes you read on the web. Do distribute jokes or witticisms or cartoons that puncture lies and propaganda.
